From Homelessness to Home Buyer

Updated: Jul 14, 2025

A child, age 2, was removed from her mother due to homelessness and failure to thrive. The child was very malnourished. Mom was developmentally delayed. Dad and mom were not living together due to manipulation by mom’s family; however, they were together as Mom was pregnant with a second child. Family Alliance began services with the family through our supervised visitation program. Staff trained Mom in parenting and life skills. We advocated for Mom with DFCS and the Court. We provided very hands on supervised visitations to help Mom learn to be set boundaries, consistently enforce rules and consequences, and learn to play with her children. Transitioning to our Family Success program, Mom develop coping skills for her anger (fight or flight) response when she didn’t understand. We assisted in getting parents back together. We provided crisis management and couples coaching for the parents. The family originally reunited living with the paternal grandmother, but is now in their own rent-to-own property. Dad now has a very good job where he has excelled to supervisor. Mom and children are doing very well together. The children are safe and reunified with their biological parents, in a loving, caring, supportive family unit. Mom continues to work with local mental health providers to increase her skills and protective factors. Our Clinical Specialist continues as a community support as needed; however, this family found their way to success!
